Curtis Hunter was born on September 1, 1947, in Sawyerville, Alabama, to Woodrow and Lillian B. Hunter, and died on October 23, 2025, at Greene County Nursing Home in Eutaw, Alabama, at the age of 78.
Known to many as “Curtis Lee,” a name he carried throughout the years, he was a farmer and animal raiser all his life. He was a man with a generous heart who fulfilled everyone; there was nothing he wouldn’t do for you—just ask. As his family wrote, he “gained his wings” on October 23.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Lillian B. Hunter; his sister, Annie Hunter; and his brothers, Woodrow Hunter Jr., Joshua (Bro) Hunter, Willie Hunter, James Hunter, and Clarence (Cannon Ball) Hunter.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his brother Walter (Eleanora) Hunter of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; his sisters Cora H. Fields of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Geraldine Hunter (Dean) of Sawyerville, Alabama; his sister-in-law, Jean Hunter of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, numerous cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.
The family offers special thanks to Wayne Hunter, his nephew who helped him during his life’s journey; to his sister Dean, who was his caregiver for seven months; and to his nephew Chester Jemison (Sarah), who was his “ride or die,” day or night. Not to leave anyone out, the family thanks everyone who was there for Curtis and for them.
Graveside services were held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Sawyerville, Alabama.
