Two from Uniontown arrested in North Alabama, charged with October 12 capital murder of Cain

Two Uniontown men, Jayelynn L. Cole, 19, and Martrell Darail Carlisle, 19, have been arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in the Oct. 12, 2025 killing of 21-yearold Shermain Jawan Cain in Uniontown, Perry County.

According to criminal complaints filed this week, prosecutors allege Cole and Carlisle intentionally caused Cain’s death by shooting him with a firearm while he was inside a vehicle. The filings state that shots were fired from outside a vehicle and from a vehicle, specifically a 2005 GMC Yukon, into the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis GS in which Cain was riding.

Cole and Carlisle were taken into custody in Huntsville and are being held at the Madison County Jail pending transfer to Perry County to face the capital-murder charges.

“This was a senseless act of gun violence that took yet another young life in our community. The last murder was one too many,” District Attorney Robert H. Turner, Jr. said, commending the Uniontown Police Department, ALEA and the U.S. Marshals for their coordination in apprehending the suspects. “Our office remains steadfast in its mission to seek justice and find truth. But justice cannot be achieved by prosecution alone—it requires prevention, compassion and collaboration. We must come together as a community to stress the value of our young lives and denounce the cycle of violence that continues to rob our future.”

Turner noted that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
