W.F. “Noopie” Cosby, Jr., of Valley Grande, an alumnus and board of trustees member of Marion Military Institute, was among 10 Alabamians inducted as permanent members of the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Prattville.
The 2025 Senior Citizens Hall of Fame class also included Thomas Moore of Demopolis, along with JoAnn Grimsley, Midland; Russ Hutcherson, Huntsville; Nancy Robertson, Huntsville; Jeffrey Sparks, Jasper; Geoff Statum, Huntsville; Robert Worlds, Pansey; Patricia Wright, Troy; Joe Young, Birmingham; and posthumous inductee Clarence Harrison Bishop, Fairhope.
Special awards were presented to 31 senior citizens for outstanding service in categories including Lifetime Achievement, Community Service, Senior Center, Education and Veterans. Twenty-two couples who have been married 65 years or more, and 17 individuals who are 100 years old or older, were also recognized during the program.
“This is the one major event in Alabama each year where individuals are formally honored and recognized for their selfless advocacy and dedication to serving older adults in their community,” said Jean Brown, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Senior Services.
Hall of Fame honorees are nominated by members of their communities and chosen by the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Selection Committee. The Hall of Fame was created by the Alabama Legislature in 1983 to honor Alabamians aged 60 and older for outstanding contributions to the lives of older Alabamians.
