Tony Lorenza Hogan, 49, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of murder in the Perry County Circuit Court on November 19, 2024, in connection to the 2016 killing of Wardell Turner. Initially charged with capital murder, Hogan entered into a plea agreement that includes a 25-year prison sentence, credit for 3,074 days already served, and a provision barring him from ever returning to Perry County.
Hogan was indicted in February 2017 for capital murder involving robbery, following his arrest on February 1, 2017. The offense occurred on June 20, 2016. According to the criminal complaint, Tony Lorenza Hogan intentionally caused the death of Wardell Turner by shooting him multiple times in the back with a .22 caliber handgun. The complaint further states that this act occurred during the course of a robbery, specifically involving the theft of Turner’s burgundy Chevrolet Lumina. The shooting was said to have occurred as Turner attempted to leave.
As part of the plea agreement accepted by Circuit Judge Donald L. McMillan Jr., Hogan waived all rights to appeal or file further motions in the case.
Under the agreement, Hogan must pay a $50 assessment to the Alabama Crime Victims Fund and cover court costs, though attorneys’ fees and fines were waived. The banishment provision permanently prohibits Hogan from living, working, or being present in Perry County upon his release from prison.
