Officers also charged Ballard, 45, with possession of a pistol reportedly stolen from Northport Police Department
A Marion man was arrested on June 21, and is now facing attempted murder charges in Perry County District Court, according to court documents. Stephen Chad Ballard, 45, was in custody at the Perry County Jail as of press time. The case is currently assigned to District Judge Robert D. Bryant.
The case initiation date, arrest date, and offense date all fall on June 21. The case was formally filed the following day on June 22.
Ballard is facing multiple charges, according to court records. These include two counts of attempted murder, one count of receiving stolen property in the second degree, one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied building or vehicle, one count of reckless endangerment, and one count of criminal mischief in the second degree.
The criminal complaint against Ballard charges that, on June 21, he “continuously” shot at two people who were walking down Mill Ave. in Uniontown. In connection with that alleged incident, the charges of discharging into an occupied dwelling, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief followed, for alleged damage to a home on Mill Road hit by stray bullets. The complaint also accuses Ballard of receiving stolen property, saying that he possessed a silver .9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun that had been stolen from the Northport Police Department.
These charges consist of felonies related to both property and personal crimes. The attempted murder charges are classified as class A felonies, the highest level of felony classification under Alabama law, which indicates the seriousness of the alleged crimes. Bond was set at $177,000.
