Complaint alleges he fired a handgun into an occupied vehicle
A Marion man was arrested on a warrant Oct. 8 on charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle stemming from a Sept. 15 incident, according to Perry County District Court records.
Ja’Rodrick O’Neal Woods, 24, of Marion is charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony; discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, a Class B felony; and criminal mischief in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
In a complaint sworn Sept. 23, a Perry County sheriff’s deputy alleges that Woods fired a handgun into an occupied vehicle. The occupant was “attempting to leave the location following an assault,” the complaint states.
No assault charge had been filed as of court records dated Oct. 9.
A Perry County Sheriff’s Office incident report filed in the case lists the offense as occurring on the morning of Sept. 15 at a residence on Alberta Fuller Drive in Marion. The report lists the vehicle as damaged.
The case was filed in district court the day Woods was arrested. The court entered an order on his initial appearance Oct. 8, and an attorney was appointed to represent him, court records show.
Court records dated Oct. 8 listed Woods as jailed with no bond set. A docket entry that day cites Aniah’s Law and reads “no bond Marengo Co.”
The defense filed an affidavit of substantial hardship Oct. 8 and a motion for discovery Oct. 9, court records show.
A combined Aniah’s Law and preliminary hearing was set for 9 a.m. Oct. 15, court records show.
