The Marion City Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the council chambers at City Hall, 123 E. Jefferson St., after a 5:45 p.m. public hearing on a request for a variance to place a mobile home at 102 Mason Street.
The request, by Johnny Stevenson, is also on the council’s agenda for a second reading under old business.
No one attended a public hearing on the same request before the council’s Sept. 21 meeting, Mayor Dexter Hinton reported that night. No motion was made to approve the request; Councilman Willie Jackson moved to table it until the next meeting, and Councilman Stanley Kennie seconded.
Under new business, the council is to set a new date for a budget meeting. The agenda proposes 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, or 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19.
Also on the agenda are approval of the Sept. 21 minutes, a proposal for repairs to Davis Street, animal control concerns brought by Dr. Anthony and Dr. Cathy Trimble, and a follow-up to previous questions.
The agenda also lists monthly department reports and a proposed yearly holiday calendar, with monthly expenditures, a revenue and expenditure report and a brief budget analysis. Public comments are limited to three minutes per speaker. The hearing and meeting will also be on Zoom, meeting ID 285 802 9880, passcode 918364, according to the city’s notice. Seating in the council chambers is limited, the notice says.
