Two Jefferson County residents are charged with breaking into Heiberger Grocery on Highway 5 early on the morning of Monday, July 27.
Kody Michael Kilburn, 21, of Midfield, and Mackenzie Jade Barbee, 18, of Birmingham, were arrested Thursday, July 30, by the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.
Each is charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class C felony, and two misdemeanors, theft of property in the fourth degree and criminal mischief in the third degree.
Complaints filed in Perry County District Court allege the two entered the unoccupied store about 3:20 a.m. and took about $80 worth of Newport cigarettes and roughly $250 in change.
A window at the store, which is owned by James Stewart, was damaged in the break-in. The complaints put that damage at less than $500.
Case records filed July 30 show both defendants were in jail, with bond set at $12,000 each.
