Marion man charged with attempted murder after shooting near WABT

A Marion man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired shots into a vehicle occupied by a woman and an infant child near West Alabama Bank on Washington Street on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Marion Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 12:16 p.m. to reports of shots being fired into the occupied vehicle, according to a statement released by Chief Nikisha Gailes.

The suspect, identified as Terry Deonta Harris, allegedly discharged a firearm into the vehicle and assaulted the female victim, attempting to make her drive into an occupied building, before fleeing the scene in a semi-truck.

Harris was located at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 80 and taken into custody without further incident, according to the department.

Agencies assisting in the apprehension included the Marion Police Department, Uniontown Police Department, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and Perry County E-911 Dispatch.

As of Tuesday, Harris had been transported to the Marengo County Jail and charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Domestic violence/assault
  • Endangering the welfare of a child

According to the Marion Police Department, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
