The Perry County Democratic Executive Committee has announced that qualifying for the 2026 Democratic primary will open January 5 and close January 23 at 5:00 p.m.
Candidates may qualify at the Albert Turner Sr. Annex, where someone will be available during regular business hours. The primary election is set for May 19.
Qualifying fees are due at the time of qualifying and are equal to 2 percent of the salary for the office sought.
Local offices on the ballot include:
- Perry County Commission Districts 1, 2, and 3
- Sheriff
- Coroner
- Revenue Commissioner
- Perry County Board of Education District 5
All other ballot positions, including state senate, state house district representatives, and candidates to the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC), are qualified through the state party’s election portal at aldemocrats.org.
The state party’s qualifying fee is two percent of the annual salary of the position. SDEC candidates may be required to pay a $50.00 qualifying fee.
