Francis Marion School’s athlete of the week, Zy’Kerria Woods

Zy’Kerria Woods

Cheering has been so much more than a sport or an activity for me—it has become a defining part of who I am. When I step onto the sidelines or the mat, I feel an energy that pushes me to give my very best, not just for myself but for my team and everyone watching. Cheering has taught me the importance of teamwork, dedication, and resilience. Every chant, every stunt, and every routine is about more than performance; it’s about bringing people together, lifting spirits, and showing what can be accomplished when we trust and support one another.

Through cheer, I’ve learned how powerful positivity can be. Even in moments of exhaustion or challenge, I’ve discovered that enthusiasm and encouragement can turn things around—not just for a team, but for a whole crowd. Most importantly, cheering has given me confidence and a voice. It has shown me that I can be a leader, a motivator, and a role model, both on and off the sidelines.

In her own words, Zykerria Woods
