County schedules Sept. 23 hearing on solid waste plan

Perry County Commission will hold a public hearing next month on a newly revised Solid Waste Management Plan, which outlines how the county and its municipalities handle the generation, collection, and disposal of solid waste. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Perry County Courthouse Annex in the Commission Chambers. Residents will have the opportunity to present views, data, and arguments concerning the updated plan.

The plan covers solid waste management across the City of Marion, the City of Uniontown, the unincorporated areas of Perry County, and the Town of Faunsdale in neighboring Marengo County. It includes long-range recommendations and projections intended to guide future policy and infrastructure decisions. Copies of the proposed plan are available for public review during normal business hours from August 20 through the date of the hearing at the Perry County Commission Office in the Courthouse at 300 Washington Street in Marion.

Written comments on the Solid Waste Management Plan may be directed to Albert Turner, Jr., Chair of the Perry County Commission, at the Perry County Courthouse, P.O. Box 478, Marion, AL 36756, any time prior to the public hearing. Oral comments will also be accepted at the hearing itself. For further information or to obtain a copy of the plan, members of the public may contact Beverly Gordon at the Commission Office at 334-683-2200.
