Qualifying period ends with challengers for mayor, all city council positions in Marion

The City of Marion’s upcoming municipal election is set, with a full slate of candidates qualifying to run for mayor and all five city council seats. The qualifying period officially ended at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.

Four candidates will appear on the ballot for mayor. Incumbent Dexter Hinton is seeking reelection and will face three challengers: Fairest Cureton, Chadrick Moore, and Travis Perkins.

Each of the city’s five council districts will also have contested races. In District 1, incumbent Jeremy Arrington is running for another term and is being challenged by Janet Cole. In District 2, incumbent Tommy Kennie will face Edd Miree and Lakeisha Shaw. District 3 incumbent Charles Sanders is running against Ann Hereford LeCroy. In District 4, incumbent Willie Jackson is being challenged by Vinnie Royster. District 5 will see a three-way race between Joe Frazer III, Sharon Horton, and Stanley Kennie.

The election will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the New National Guard Armory located at 620 Magnolia Street in Marion. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sample ballots are scheduled to be posted by July 25, and absentee ballots and related supplies will be available by July 20, according to a statement poste by the City of Marion on Tuesday night, June 24 following the end of the qualifying period.
