Uniontown man charged with attempted murder, rape, multiple kidnapping counts

Prosecutors filed multiple charges in Perry County District Court against a Uniontown man, Jamaris Johnson, on Feb. 12. The Court alleges that on or about Dec. 14 last year, Johnson committed attempted murder by firing a gun at a woman. The complaint alleges Johnson then committed first degree kidnapping by forcing a victim into a shed at gunpoint, where he then kept her against her will for 48 hours. The court further alleges Johnson committed multiple counts of rape against her during that time period.

The Court claims Johnson then committed first degree kidnapping again on or about Jan. 30 of this year by allegedly abducting the same unnamed victim with the intent to inflict physical injury, violate, sexually abuse, or terrorize her.

Johnson, 39 years old, is a resident of Perry County. He is being held in Perry County Jail pending an Aniah’s Law hearing, which is set for February 20th. Aniah’s Law is an Alabama law stipulating that suspects arrested on certain severe criminal charges can be held without bond pending a hearing before a judge, and that judges can deny those suspects bond in the interest of public safety.
