Margie Nell Crocker Morton, 88, of Marion, AL, was called home to the Lord on February 3, 2023, in Cartersville, GA.
She was born on February 26, 1934, in Sprott, AL, to George Lummie and Alma Lee Stone Crocker.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Allen Morton, the love of her life; her parents Lummie and Alma; her sisters Mattie Lee Harris and Sue Ellen Clements; and nephews Steve George Clements and Lummie Adam Mitchell.
She is survived by siblings Carlene Cook (Jimmy) and George William Crocker (Joyce); daughters Linda Beving (Steve), Cheryl Miller (Greg), and Monique Morton; granddaughters Lani Miller (Clay), Whitney Nichols (Taylor), Madelynne Moulton (Corey), and Ali Schulte (Jared); and great-grandchildren Davis Miller, Molly Nichols, Ellis Moulton, Sam Nichols, Everett Moulton, and Olivia Schulte, as well as many treasured nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
Maintaining the bond with sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles was the core of her being and she spent many hours on the phone keeping family ties strong. She earned the moniker “Hornet” and lived up to that name as a powerful advocate for family members. She was an awesome storyteller and a woman who was always on the go. She loved Marion, where she was able to visit her family members and friends often. Margie was a true matriarch of her family.
Margie and Hugh raised three daughters, Linda, Cheryl, and Monique. While in the military they traveled to and lived in places she never dreamed possible. These experiences molded her into the strong woman she became.
Margie was a dedicated member of Marion Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on various church committees. She worked many years at Perry County Nursing Home where she was much beloved by coworkers and residents alike.
Margie’s family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Senior Helpers and Pruitt Home Health in Waleska, GA; and Trinity Hospice and the entire staff of Tiger Lily Estates in Cartersville, GA, for providing Margie with such loving care during the final years of her life.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, 2:00 pm at The Marion Presbyterian Church in Marion AL, followed by a brief graveside service at the Marion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Margie Morton to the American Heart Association.
