A Montevallo man was arrested August 10 on felony charges stemming from an April break-in and beating at a Perry County home.
Ta’Vicia Dewan Tutt, 24, was arrested for burglary, first degree; assault, first degree; and criminal mischief, third degree. The burglary charge is a Class A felony and the assault charge is a Class B felony.
According to a complaint sworn by a Marion police officer, Tutt entered or remained unlawfully in a woman’s dwelling about 2 a.m. April 4 with the intent to commit assault, and the woman and a man inside were injured. The complaint alleges Tutt struck the man in the head multiple times with a handgun, causing serious physical injury, under circumstances it describes as showing extreme indifference to the value of human life. It further alleges he damaged an exterior wall of the home, with the damage put at no more than $500.
The complaint was sworn April 9, and Tutt was arrested August 10 in Montevallo, according to court records.
Tutt was being held in the Marengo County Jail with no bond set, according to court records dated August 11. An initial appearance and bail hearing under Aniah’s Law, which allows courts to deny bail on certain violent felony charges, was set for August 12 in Perry County District Court.
