Venison Provisions, an Alabama program that turns donated deer into meals for families in need, is asking hunters to pledge a doe this season as part of the National Deer Association’s #DonateADoe initiative.
Hunters who harvest a deer they want to donate bring it to a participating drop-off, then post a photo with the harvest or the donated meat, tag the #DonateADoe page and challenge three friends to do the same. Pledging a harvest ahead of time helps the program plan logistics, it said.
Citing figures that 919,160 Alabamians, including one in four children, face hunger, the group notes that nearly 236,000 Alabama deer hunters harvested more than 330,000 deer in the 2024-25 season, more than 176,000 of them does.
The listed drop-off location is Shana’s Place LLC, 1884 County Road 6, Shorter.
Venison Provisions is also looking for deer processors willing to partner with the program and for businesses, churches, hunting clubs and landowners to host its donation trailer for a week during the 2026-27 season.
