Ida Mae Johnson, 78, died December 20, 2025. She was born June 9, 1947, in Akron, Alabama, to Ms. Alberta Fields and Johnny Hines, who preceded her in death. She confessed hope in Christ at Flatwood C.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. Glen E. Jones Sr.
Death is just a bridge across the river to eternal life; Ida crossed that bridge on December 20, 2025, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Johnson; her son, Lorenzo Fields; five loving sisters, Ella Wynn, Shirley Minter, Mildred Fields, Doris Fields, and Dorothy Fields; four brothers, Charlie and Clarence Overtree, Joseph Fields, and Robert Fields; a loving and caring daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Thomas Fields; and two grandsons, Don Fields and Jamon Fields.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories:
- Children: Letha Shepherd, Elvis Fields, Cloretta Lyles, Bobby Fields, and Tony Fields
- Sister: Mary Alice Dedrick
- Brothers: Clifton (Anna) Fields, MacAuthor Fields, Aldolphus (Shirley) Fields, and Author Fields
- Granddaughters: Felicia Fields, Malery Fields, Jasmine Diggins, Raven Fields, Cla’Mya (Brandon) Brown, Shanidria Williams, and Denise Thomas
- Grandsons: Bobby (Deja) Fields, Elvis Fields Jr., Charles (Nicondria) Lyles, Ny Tavius Fields, and Logan Fields
- Great-grandchildren: thirteen
- A host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly
Public viewing was held Friday, January 2, 2026, from noon until 4 p.m. at Agnew Funeral Home in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Bass Tabernacle C.M.E. Church, 22890 County Road 32, Akron, with Rev. Willie D. Garnett, pastor, and Rev. Roger Anderson, eulogist.
Interment followed at Sample Cemetery in Akron.
