Benjamin Catlin Miller

Benjamin Catlin Miller, a cherished educator, devoted community member, and beloved friend, passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born December 15, 1950, in Picayune, Mississippi, to the late Willie Lee “Bill” Miller, III and Emmy Lou Catlin Miller.

Career and Education

Benjamin began his professional journey at the Perry County Highway Department, where he served faithfully for 18 years. His love for education led him to enroll in the adult degree program at Judson College, earning a teaching degree. He went on to inspire countless students over a 22-year career as a Science teacher at Greensboro East Campus.

Even after retirement, Benjamin’s passion for teaching remained strong. He served as Headmaster at Marion Academy, returning to science education for an additional five years, leaving an indelible mark on his students by nurturing their curiosity and love for learning.

Benjamin’s educational journey was as vibrant as his personality. He attended schools around the world, including:

  • Northside Elementary School – Texas City, Texas
  • Trinity Grammar School – Melbourne, Australia
  • Tournesol School – Gstaad, Switzerland

His father’s work inspired this global exploration. Benjamin continued his education at Marion Military Institute, where he was a member of the White Knights drill team and the tennis team. Later, he attended the University of South Alabama on a full scholarship, earning a degree in Psychology, which shaped his empathetic approach to teaching and life.

Personality and Community Involvement

Known for his infectious smile and reassuring words, “Everything will be okay,” Benjamin embodied positivity. His wit and humor brightened the lives of those around him, creating a warm presence that was both comforting and uplifting.

He was a long-time member of Marion Methodist Church, where his faith and community involvement reflected his generous heart.

Hobbies and Interests

Benjamin embraced sports and the great outdoors. In his younger years, he played tennis and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Over time, golf became his greatest passion. He traveled throughout Central Alabama, playing various courses and competing in local tournaments with his friends, affectionately known as his “golfing buddies.” Nicknamed “Mighty Mouse,” he approached the game—and life—with energy, enthusiasm, and joy.

Funeral Services

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Marion Methodist Church, with Rev. Len Hurston officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Visitation began at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.

Pallbearers included: Randy Goss, David Wallace, Dave Clark, Gawin Rich, Corin Harrison, Jr., Scott Brewer, Jonathan Goode, and Barry Mitchell.
