Perry students recognized at West Central Alabama 4-H Rabbit Show

West Central Alabama 4-H Rabbit Show

The West Central Alabama 4-H Rabbit Show brought excitement and pride to Perry County during the Central Alabama State Fair on November 5th at Selma Lions Club Park. Two talented local 4-H members showcased their creativity and walked away with top honors in the Artistic Expression category.

Ma’Reekah Lawson, competing at the Senior Level, earned First Place for her outstanding artistic presentation. Her younger counterpart, Fredrick Lawson, Jr., impressed judges in the Junior Level, also securing First Place. Both winners are residents of Perry County and active members of the Independent 4-H Clubs.

The event highlighted not only their skills but also the dedication of Perry County’s 4-H program to fostering youth development and creativity. On hand to celebrate their achievements was Katrina Easley, Perry County Extension Director, who expressed pride in the participants’ hard work and success.

The Rabbit Show is a popular event within Alabama’s 4-H program, designed to teach youth about animal care, responsibility, and showmanship. Participants often raise and exhibit rabbits, learning essential skills in grooming, feeding, and presenting their animals to judges. The show also includes creative categories like Artistic Expression, which allow youth to demonstrate their talents beyond traditional livestock handling.

The Rabbit Show is part of the broader mission of 4-H to provide hands-on learning experiences that build leadership, confidence, and community engagement among youth.

The accomplishments of Ma’Reekah and Fredrick serve as an inspiring example of what young people can achieve through commitment and support.
