Rural Perry County residents could see changes to household garbage service next year as the Perry County Commission opens bidding for a new countywide collection and disposal contract. The Invitation to Bid covers unincorporated areas only; the cities of Uniontown and Marion operate their own municipal garbage services and are not part of this bid.
Bids are due at the Perry County Commission Office, 300 Washington Street, Suite 103, Marion, by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025. The commission plans to open bids and consider an award during its regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. that evening, or soon thereafter. Late bids will be returned unopened.
According to the bid package, time is of the essence, and bidders must use the county’s Bid Submittal Forms. Proposals must be typed—no pencil—and submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the bid number and item. E-mailed or faxed bids will not be accepted. Overnight deliveries must place the sealed bid packet inside a second, clearly labeled inner envelope.
A bid bond is required for proposals of $15,000 or more: either a cashier’s check drawn on an Alabama bank or a bid bond from a surety authorized to do business in Alabama, equal to five percent of the total bid price, payable to the Perry County Commission. Failure to include the required bond is grounds for rejection. Bonds from unsuccessful bidders will be returned in accordance with Alabama bid law.
The county’s invitation package includes the notice, written specifications, and the required forms. Bidders are responsible for confirming they have all pages and should contact the county for any missing material in time to meet the deadline.
Bids should be mailed or hand-delivered to:
Perry County Commission, Attn: Beverly Gordon, J.D., P.O. Box 478, 300 Washington Street, Suite 103, Marion, AL 36756.
Interested residents may attend the public bid opening at the commission meeting.
