Extension welcomed students, guests for ‘Be Ready Day’ Oct. 31

Be Ready Day

On October 31st, the grounds of the Perry County Courthouse Annex II, Richard M. Avery Building were filled with excitement and purpose as students, educators, and community partners gathered for the Progressive Ag & Be Ready Emergency Preparedness Day.

Students from Breakthrough Charter School and Perry County Schools participated in a full day of handson learning focused on safety and emergency preparedness. Through interactive exhibits and engaging presentations, students gained valuable insights into how to respond during various types of emergencies.

To add to the festive atmosphere, several lucky attendees won door prizes, bringing extra smiles and energy to the event.

Several agencies and organizations contributed to the success of the day. Representatives from Perry County EMA, the Alabama Forestry Commission, Alabama Power, C.H.O.I.C.E., COSA, Sowing Seeds of Hope, Project G.R.A.C.E., and the Optimist Club were present to share resources and expertise. Local law enforcement and emergency services were also well represented, including the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, Marion Police Department, Alabama EMA, Perry County Ambulance, and the Hamburg and Uniontown Fire Departments. The Perry County Extension Office also played a key role in supporting the event.

Special recognition goes to Katrina Easley, DeAndre Kimbrough, and Frances Ford for their outstanding leadership and coordination. Their dedication and teamwork were instrumental in making the day a true success.

Emergency Preparedness Day not only educated students and adults alike, but also strengthened community ties, showcasing the power of collaboration in building a safer and more resilient Perry County.
