County looks to hire new animal control officer to cover Perry

The Perry County Commission is accepting applications for an Animal Control Officer, with the deadline set for Friday, November 14, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

The position will enforce county and municipal laws on the care and control of domestic and wild animals. The officer will respond to calls about stray or dangerous animals, capture them using humane methods, and transport them safely to shelters or veterinary facilities. The job also includes investigating cruelty and neglect complaints, enforcing leash, licensing, and vaccination ordinances, and quarantining animals suspected of rabies or other diseases.

Applicants should expect an active, outdoor work environment that requires physical stamina and the ability to work in varying weather. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required for emergencies. Duties also include maintaining detailed records and reports; educating the public about responsible pet ownership; collaborating with law enforcement as needed; administering basic first aid to injured animals until veterinary care is available; sanitizing equipment, vehicles, and containment areas; participating in outreach and adoption events; and assisting in disaster response involving displaced animals.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and prior experience working with animals is preferred. Strong communication, problem-solving, and safety awareness are emphasized. Salary will be discussed with candidates.
