Perry County Circuit Judge Donald McMillan has ordered the forfeiture of a $351,000 bond in the case of Gerald Lee Hogue, a Missouri man facing multiple felony charges stemming from a 2021 shooting in Marion.
Hogue, who was described by authorities as an out-of-state “hit man,” was first arrested after a tenmile chase through Perry County in April 2021. He was indicted on charges including conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and multiple counts of discharging a firearm into a building and a vehicle.
He was released on bond in March 2023 after Scott Bonds Court Bail Bond LLC, a Selma-based company, signed for him. Since his release, Hogue has missed multiple court appearances. His attorney cited medical issues, but McMillan denied a request to delay trial and issued a new bench warrant when Hogue failed to appear for his scheduled July 22 trial.
At a bond forfeiture hearing on August 14, the State appeared but representatives of Scott Bonds Court Bail Bond LLC failed to appear or otherwise respond. McMillan issued a written order declaring the bond forfeited. The order requires the bonding company to pay the full $351,000 to the Perry County Circuit Court within 30 days or to return Hogue to the Perry County Jail within the same period. Court records show certified copies of the order were mailed to Charles Scott at two Selma addresses on August 19 and again on August 20. The order was formally entered into the record on August 21.
As of this week, Hogue remains at large. Earlier filings indicated he had left Alabama and returned to Missouri after making bond.
