Main Street Marion awarded $148k grant for Vaiden Field, Perry Lakes, other projects

Main Street Marion has received a $148,000 grant to develop an extensive economic growth plan for the City of Marion and Perry County. The plan will focus on the Perry Lakes Park redevelopment, downtown Marion business revitalization, and an economic development assessment of Vaiden Field, according to Main Street Marion President Donald Bennett.

The group hopes to improve Perry Lakes Park by possibly expanding recreational facilities, evaluating its event hosting capabilities, and developing tourism to bring more visitors to the area. The goal in the downtown business district will be to create a technology corridor with the Harris Technology Hub serving as an anchor.

“A key focus will be the development of e-commerce capabilities and digital business support services that can help local entrepreneurs and established businesses expand their market reach through online platforms, “said Bennett in a statement.

The plan will evaluate Vaiden Field and examine recreation and business goals.

“This grant represents a pivotal opportunity to create a unified vision for Marion’s economic future. By taking a comprehensive approach that connects our natural resources, downtown core, and recreational facilities, we can maximize the impact of future development efforts and create sustainable economic growth for our community,” said Bennett.
