The Garden-To-Pantry Workshop, held June 16th at Siloam Baptist Church, was a celebration of fresh food, community learning, and hands-on experience. Hosted by the Perry County Extension Office, the event brought together Extension experts and community members for a day filled with flavor, fun, and practical skills.
Participants were treated to a dynamic lineup of workshops led by Extension professionals:
Tera Glenn, Human Health, Diet & Nutrition Agent, wowed attendees with live cooking demonstrations. From a zesty fresh salsa to a tomato and mozzarella dish topped with homemade herb dressing, and a sweet blueberry crumble, her creations were as inspiring as they were delicious. Her passion for healthy eating encouraged everyone to bring fresh, nutritious ideas into their own kitchens.
Alice Moore, Food Safety & Quality Agent, led a hands-on blueberry jammaking session. With a focus on safe food preservation, she guided participants through each step, ensuring everyone left with both a jar of homemade jam and the confidence to preserve their own harvests at home.
David Lawrence, Commercial Horticulture Agent, shared expert advice on growing tomatoes. His engaging talk covered everything from soil health to plant care and maximizing yield, empowering attendees to start or enhance their home gardens.
Katrina Easley, County Extension Director of the Perry County Extension Office, provided the leadership and coordination that brought the event to life. Her behind-the-scenes work ensured a smooth, impactful experience for all involved.
A special thank you goes to Pastor John Nicholson and the Siloam Baptist Church family for their warm hospitality. Their generosity created a welcoming space where learning, sharing, and community spirit could flourish.
