The halls of Francis Marion School are buzzing with energy and excitement as the “Eat Better, Move More” SNAP-ED program enters its third week. This initiative is helping students embrace healthier lifestyles through fun, food, and fitness— and it’s been a hit from day one!
Now in Week 3, students are diving into lessons that teach them how to make smarter food choices using the GO, SLOW, and WHOA system:
- GO Foods – Eat ANYTIME (think fresh fruits, veggies, and whole grains)
- SLOW Foods – Eat SOMETIMES (like pasta, pancakes, and juice)
- WHOA Foods – Eat only ONCE IN A WHILE (such as chips, candy, and soda)
Each session is packed with hands-on activities, from tasting new fruits and vegetables to playing active games that get everyone moving. Students are also taking home fun tools and tips to keep the healthy habits going beyond the classroom.
A special shoutout goes to the incredible students who bring their enthusiasm and curiosity to every session. Their energy is contagious and their commitment to learning is inspiring!
And none of this would be possible without the leadership of Yanna Johnson, SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator with the Perry County Extension Office. Her passion for wellness education and her ability to connect with students have made this program a true success.
As we look ahead to the final week of this healthy summer adventure, we celebrate the progress made and the memories created. Here’s to a happy, healthy summer for all!
