The City of Marion has officially published notice of Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as the date of its upcoming municipal election. Voters will cast ballots to choose a mayor and one city council member from each of the city’s five council districts.
The election will take place at the New National Guard Armory, located at 620 Magnolia Street (formerly Industrial Drive). Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time.
To qualify as a candidate, individuals must have resided within the Marion city limits for at least 90 days prior to the election. All registered and qualified voters who have lived in the city for at least 30 days are eligible to vote in their district and in the mayoral race.
If necessary, a runoff election will be held on Tuesday, September 23.
Candidates seeking office must file a statement of candidacy and related documents with the Marion City Clerk. The qualifying period opens at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24. Paperwork may be submitted during business hours—8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.—at Marion City Hall, located at 123 E. Jefferson Street.
Municipal elections are expected to take place the same day across many towns and cities in Perry, Hale, Marengo, and surrounding counties, as prescribed by state law. Additional election notices and qualifying announcements will continue to appear in the coming weeks.
Recent elections in the region have seen a mix of longtime officeholders and new candidates vying for leadership roles. As concerns over infrastructure, economic development, and community safety grow, voter turnout and candidate interest may rise accordingly.
Residents are encouraged to confirm their voter registration and district information through the Alabama Secretary of State’s website or by contacting the Perry County Board of Registrars.
