It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our Dot-Dot, Dorothy Lynn Avery (Dottie) on May 8th, 2025 at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, Florida. She was born December 8th, 1951 in Marion, Alabama to Grady Norman Avery and Doris Barton Avery.
Dottie was educated in Perry County schools and later received her Bachelor’s Degree from Troy University Montgomery. Her resourcefulness in problem solving and technology led her to a variety of job opportunities throughout many years and several states. She worked for Bush Hog and International Paper Company in Selma, Alabama, Scott Accounting in Alexander City, Alabama; Hendersonville, North Carolina Housing Authority; Greenville, South Carolina Housing Authority; Reform, Alabama Housing Authority; and Niceville, Florida Housing Authority. While living in Florida, she was a board member of PanCare Health.
After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed gardening, traveling, and caring for their fur babies. Dottie was everyone’s best friend and she never met a stranger. She opened her home and her heart to anyone she met in need, be it human or canine.
Dottie was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, Hiram Grady and Norma Dobbins Avery and Clyde Franklin and Velma Logan Barton, and her brothers-in-law, Roger Elliott and Tim Abrams. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Robin Taylor Hoops, her son, Brandon Kirk Vaughan (Aprill Anne Vaughan), her mother, her sisters, Koky Elliott and Joyce Abrams. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shaianne DeDeaux, Zayne DeDeaux, Nai’ye Clanton, Kirklynn Vaughan and Carolyn Vaughan, six great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and her fur babies, Tink, Yogi, and Que.
A memorial service will be held at Marion Methodist Church on June 7th, 2025 at 2:00 with visitation at 1:00.
