Elmer Devon Hogue “Zunk”, native of Marion, AL. answered the master’s call on December 5, 2024. Devon “Zunk” Hogue was born August 17, 1974 in Marion, Alabama to Norma Jean Hogue and to the late Elmer “Bull” Hogue. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. He is a graduate of Francis Marion High School. Devon joined the United States Air Force and was a Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Apprentice. He attended Devry University in Georgia where he obtained his Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. Before transitioning, Devon was employed at Target Sortation as the General Maintenance Facility Attendant.
As a child, Devon enjoyed playing basketball. He loved to indulge in his mother’s meatloaf and macaroni and cheese. In addition, Devon would destroy a plate of collard greens. Throughout his life, he was a jack of all trades. He was exceptional at fixing anything that was broken! Traveling from state to state with family and friends is one thing he admired the most. If you knew “Zunk”, he was legendary for hosting the biggest parties in the country and creating unforgettable vibes that set the standard. Although he was laid back and off the scene, he was everyone’s favorite family member. He had the ability to make anyone smile and was always down to explore new adventures. When Devon entered the building, he was clean as a whistle! He kept it REAL and was exceedingly freehearted.
Devon was full of life and laughter which is why you never had dull moments when he was around. When riding with Devon, it was a guarantee you would listen to the best songs by 8 Ball & MJG, UGK, and his overall favorite, Tupac. He was always willing to help anyone in need without any hesitation. His passion for kids did not go unnoticed. He deeply loved his family and friends. Devon “Zunk” Hogue will truly be missed by everyone.
Devon was preceded in death by his father, Elmer “Bull” Hogue; brother, Lee Bernard Hogue, grandmother, Eleanor Hogue and Anna Bertha Hogue; grandfathers, Isaiah Hogue and Spencer Hogue Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother Norma Jean Hogue of Marion, AL; sisters, Kimberly Hogue of Marion, AL, Kalesha Warren of Calera, AL; brothers Randy (Stephanie) Hogue of Tuscaloosa, AL, Louis (Fransia) Foster of Marion, AL; two nieces, Keyanna Hogue and Makayla Jones; one great-nephew, Xaidyn Amir Jones, one Goddaughter, Chekyira Goree, as well as uncles, aunts and host of many other relatives and friends.
Viewing and Visitation were held Friday, December 13, 2024 from 9am-5pm. The homegoing celebration was held Saturday, December 14, 2024, 12 Noon at Freewill Baptist Church. Interment immediately followed in Hopewell Baptist Church, Marion, AL. Services were in the care of Ashley’s Lee & Rollins Mortuary in Marion.
