Malachi Rutledge was born on January 31, 1929, in Perry County, Alabama. He was one of fourteen children born to Percy and Zeolar Rutledge, who preceded him in death.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Old Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a devoted trustee in the church and was a dedicated, and loving servant of God until he transitioned on March 13, 2024, to eternal life.
Malachi attended Oak Grove School until 1942 and spent the rest of his years working at K-Mart in Orlando, Florida until his retirement.
He lived in Orlando, Florida for most of his life until coming home to Sprott, Alabama in 2003 to spend the rest of his days with his siblings.
He loved spending time with his family, helping in his community, and fishing. He was known in the family for cooking the best cornbread, and you could always count on him for a good game of dominoes.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mae Frances Rutledge and son, Arthur Randolph Rutledge.; sisters, Zeolar Rutledge, Lula B. Gidden, Rosie Lee Morton, Sarah Wright, Elizabeth Williams; and brothers, Jerry Rutledge, Alvin Rutledge, Veto Rutledge, and Spurgeon Rutledge, and one brother-in-law, Leon Rutledge.
Malachi is survived by his grandson, Arthur Randolph Rutledge Jr. Two sisters Florence Rutledge, and Aquilla Heard of Sprott, Alabama; Two Brothers, Scott Rutledge, and Columbus Rutledge of Sprott, Alabama, and one sister-in-law, Essie Ray Rutledge of Pensacola, Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, March 22 at Melvin Miller Funeral Service in Marion. Funeral services were Saturday, March 23 at Old Oak Grove Baptist Church in Marion. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
