Charles Cessell Johnson, age 81 of Greensboro, passed away December 9, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama. A memorial service at Greensboro Church of Christ will be announced at a later date. He was born March 11, 1942.
He is preceded in death by his parents; L.C. Johnson and Delia Alberta Johnson, sister; Mary Johnson Stokes, brother; Johnny M. Johnson.
Survivors include his daughter; Leslie Johnson Wiggins (Karl), son; Lance Edward Johnson, sister; Linda Johnson Wyatt (Gary), brother; Dencil Johnson, grandchildren; Hannah Wiggins, Benjamin Wiggins, Noah Wiggins, Abbey Wiggins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles spent the majority of his life in Hale County, Alabama. He served honorably in the United States Navy, 1960- 1964, on the USS Merrick which was stationed out San Francisco Bay.
On the USS Merrick, Charles visited Hawaii and other countries in the Pacific. It was also during this time that Charles began his career as a barber. He attended American Barber Colleges and John C. Calhoun State Technical Junior College. He opened his barber shop in Greensboro and offered barber and hair styling services until 2020.
He also tended two vegetable gardens which helped supply his parents store, Johnson’s Produce. He loved to dance, play golf, and ride around. Ever the family documentarian, he carried a camera, video or point-and-shoot, on him at all times and had no hesitation to ask anyone, “Say something to the camera.”
He enjoyed making his rounds to visit family and friends. He was so proud of his grandchildren and made regular visits to the “big city” of Tuscaloosa to see them. He was an active member of Greensboro Church of Christ. Charles was a kind friend, father, and PawPaw. He will be missed.
