Marion City Council met Monday night, March 6, with a short agenda and a long executive session. The executive session, which, by law, can be conducted behind closed doors for the purposes of the discussion of an individual’s good name and character or of a legal matter with the council’s attorney present, occurred toward the end of the meeting and consumed much of the council’s time that night.
One issue that remained conspicuously absent from the counci’s agenda and table discussion that night was the expenditure of $20,000 on two new HVAC units for the Marion Depot building, which the city owns and sometimes rents out as an event venue.
Councilmembers raised questions at their last February meeting about the purchase, which they said had never been bid or voted on by the council before the money was spent.
Councilmembers may discuss the matter at their next regular meeting, set for Monday, March 20 at 6:00 p.m.
