When the dust settled after a multiple-vehicle crash in Tuscaloosa Monday afternoon, two Hale County men were in custody.
Tuscaloosa Police officers had reportedly been dispatched to investigate a tip that a stolen truck from Tennessee had been spotted at an apartment complex there. Police said Keshawn Martes McCollough, 26, of Greensboro and Frederick Dewayne Lewis, 20, of Moundville, jumped into a car and fled when they saw officers approaching them at Branscomb Apartments at around 1:20 p.m. on Monday afternoon, leading police on a chase up Ala. Hwy. 69.
Officers said the driver crashed shortly after turning east onto Skyland Blvd, running into one vehicle which then hit a third one.
Tuscaloosa P.D. reported no serious injuries resulted from the crash, though the occupant of one of the vehicles was reportedly taken to DCH Regional Medical Center to be treated.
After the crash, police say McCollough and Lewis abandoned the car and fled on foot, but officers caught up to and apprehended them in the parking lot of the Tuscaloosa Plaza Shopping Center.
While investigating the suspects’ car following the crash, officers discovered marijuana and a stolen pistol.
Officers charged McCollough with first-degree receiving stolen property and attempting to elude, setting his bond at $36,000.
They charged Lewis with first-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree receiving stolen property related to the pistol, first-degree possession of marijuana, and attempting to elude. As of press time, his bond had been set at $60,000.
