Mary King Jones Dunkin passed away peacefully in her home on December 7, 2022, shortly after having been diagnosed with cancer.
She was born on August 17, 1938 in Selma, AL to Thomas Jefferson “Jeff” Jones and Martha Sprott Richardson. She attended Perry County High School before graduating from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi fraternity. After college, she worked as a floral designer, raised four children, and later worked as a travel agent.
Mary King is survived by Gordon H. Dunkin, Jr., her husband of fifty years; her children William D. Woodfin, III, Lyn Royster (Clarence), Elizabeth Woodfin-Hill (Harry), and Gordon H. Dunkin, III; her grandchildren Niki Rinehart, Blair Barnes, Hope Royster, and J.W. Woodfin; and six great grandchildren.
A world traveler who visited all seven continents and an accomplished artist whose beautiful paintings, like her personality, brought joy and color to our lives, Mary King will be remembered most as a loving wife and mother, a caring “Mama,” and a dear friend to those she met along the way.
The family would especially like to thank the wonderful caregivers who helped and supported her in her final weeks. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Lakeside Hospice (4010 Masters Rd., Pell City, AL, 35128), Perry County High School (PCHS Alumni, P.O. Box 654, Marion, AL, 36756), or the charity of one’s choice.
