William “Wayne” Hoggle, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home on September 30, 2022. His beloved wife of almost 65 years, Dot, was by his side.
Wayne was born February 6, 1939, to the late Chester and Eva Hoggle and grew up in Hale County, Alabama. He lived a life of devotion to his church, country, and family. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, often recalling fond memories of Family Bible Time and attending Sunday School at New Hope Baptist Church. At 18 years old, Wayne married the love of his life, Dorothy Thomas of Perry County. He attributed the longevity of his marriage to their shared Christian faith and the following advice: When you’re wrong, admit it; when you’re right, shut up. Mr. Wayne and Ms. Dot raised three sons and welcomed seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Wayne served his country for 20 years in the US Army Reserves and 32 years as an engineer for the Alabama State Highway Department.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Dot Hoggle; sons Tom Hoggle, Sr. (Carol), Keith Hoggle (Robin), and Robert Hoggle (Tammy); grandchildren Tom Hoggle, Jr. (Layne), Holly Eriksen (Kristian), Andrew Hoggle (Ashley), Sarah Hoggle, Darla Mata, Morgan Hoggle (Meagan), and Craig Hoggle (Shelbie); great-grandchildren Sommer and Stella Eriksen, Emma Hoggle, William and Caroline Hoggle, and Gabriella and Lincoln Mata; special daughters Donna Brown, Katherine Northcutt (Ron), Rebecca Allen, and Lisa Barnes (Don); special son Greg Thomas (Karla); brother, Reg Hoggle (Jean); sister, Hilda Collins (Bobby); special neighbor Debbie Johnston; and several great-nieces, nephews, and surrogate grandchildren.
In addition to church and family, Wayne loved his Southern Academy Cougars in Greensboro, Alabama, where his sons, several grandkids, and many relatives graduated. He volunteered countless hours supporting students, guided by his belief that strength in character is molded at an early age. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Southern Academy Booster Club in Wayne’s memory.
Wayne will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the family farm in Perry County.
