Barbara Jean Brown died Sept. 13 at the age of 87. She was born Dec. 27, 1935 in Greensboro to the late Josephine Belton and Cleveland Thomas. She confessed Christ and joined Walls Chapel in Greensboro, later attending Pruitt Springs Baptist Church in Moundville and Shiloh C.M.E. in Greensboro before joining Akron First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Billy Thornton.
Being a loving wife and mother to her family and church home brought her joy. Her passion was caring for all people. She began her career working at Bryce Hospital and then went to nursing school. After completing nursing school, she worked for Dr. Larry Skelton, Maude Whatley, and Hale County Home Health.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mose Brown on Dec. 1, 1957. To this union, five children were born. One child, Sandra F. Brown, and five siblings, Wesley Hall, Fred Thomas, Sarah Poole, Vennie Tubbs, and Andrew Hall preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Amos F. Brown, Cynthia Finney (Jasper), Mose E. Brown Jr., Brian K. Brown (Shauntice); siblings, Louise Morrison and Ruby Hall; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 17 at Akron First Baptist Church with Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
